Being Childlike

I have started reading this book called A Childlike Heart by Alan Wright and it has brought up a lot of good points that I want to share. He talks about how simple life seemed when you were a child. Do you remember your biggest fear? The days didn't seem long enough. You hated to hear your mom call you in for bed. Bed ment the end to your day, the end of playing with friends, and it ment that you would have to start again tomorrow. Now that we're grown, I long for bed. When my head hits the pillow, all my cares from the day are forgotten. He says "Something happens between childhood and adulthood that changes our mind-set from, 'I wish this day would never end' to 'I'm glad this day is done'." And isn't it funny the toys that little kids like so much? A play lawnmower, vacuum, shopping cart. Those "chores" to us are fun to them. Think about kids emotions. They are so raw. If they are hurt they cry, loudly. If they are happy, they laugh until they throw-up. When's the last time you laughed until you cried? Everything that makes life wonderful comes so easily to children. "Children experience such joy in life, yet they possess so few of the things that adults crave. They have no money, no prestige, no sex life, no power. They have few possessions and even fewer choices. But think about it for a moment- have those adult rights ever brought you happiness?" I thought those were such profound ideas. How much simpler would my life be through the eyes of a child? I feel like I always complicate things, making tasks harder then they are. Over thinking situations and forgetting to play. If you have children, I hope this is a reminder to you to let them be kids. Don't rush them to grow up to fast. You should read this book.
