I'll have some cake with that

As you probably know, I work at a senior center. And part of my job deals with illness and death. The good thing is that it's not little children we are talking about, these are some old people. People in their 80-90's that have lived wonderful lives. So in death comes a celebration of life.

We had a participant, Lucille, become ill at the center today. We ran with procedure, calling 911, paramedics came, filled out paperwork and took her to REX. It turns out she didn't make it.
When I heard the news, I couldn't come up with one tear. Maybe I'm cold hearted, but I think it's because I am so excited for her! She was a godly woman, one of few words, kind to everyone she met and so humble. Her presence was calming.

When people pass, it seems like you find yourself sitting around talking about what a great person they were, a fun experience you had with them or happy memory. I think it is a remarkable example of faith to think that when asked "hey Lucille, how are you today" She would reply, "Not so good" with a huge smile on her face. Almost like she knew time was short and she would be seeing Jesus real soon. In her last few moments on this earth Lucille worked out, ate lunch and finished it with a piece of cake! A few moments later she took her last breath.

Someone once told me "save your fork because the best is yet to come"
Lucille knew Jesus was getting ready to celebrate!

wow...such interesting insight into a subject so many fear or at least don't want to talk about.
the last thing my grandmother had to eat before she died was chocolate ice cream...she loved dessert. supports the saying.."life is uncertain...eat dessert first!"
